It was as though I suddenly opened my eyes –
A vast ocean, calm and flat, with no land in sight.
Aboard a tall, steely ship, I stand alone at the very edge;
Dive after dive, I’m hooked and high on this sublime moment.
I open my eyes again as though a blink in time –
The sight before me was so awesome it horrified me.
All curious creatures of the sea crowds the periphery below,
Like packed sardines, grossly enlarged so they can’t be missed.
They’re silent and still with rapt attention on me.
I’m silent and still, wonderfully vulnerable inside.
Never alone, even in my own dense jungle of questioning,
They’ve been watching every deep dive I’ve practiced meticulously.
