Nancy Kam is who most people know me as and how I introduce myself to others as it’s my birth name. Mihwa Cool represents the creative side of me that I’ve hidden most of my life from the outside world. She’s my alter ego that can hide no longer; so this online presence was finally formed to show how she views life.

I’m currently exploring collage art and photomontage, which merged with my need to express myself with words. I write playful poems of my dreams, experiences and from the Magnetic Poetry on my fridge. As a child, I loved the drawings and writings from Where the Sidewalk Ends and A Light In the Attic by Shel Silverstein.

All forms of healing arts such as yoga, qigong and sitting meditation greatly impact and enhance my abilities to focus and create my work on a daily basis. I also enjoy learning numerology to understand how number vibrations affect our lives. These metaphysical pursuits are a necessary part of maintaining a semblance of balance in my life.

Made in the U.S. with an American name,
I’ve often been told that I don’t look like a Nancy.
Kam is my family name causing me to play silly games,
And my long black hair with my slitty eyes make me look fancy.

“No, ma’am, it’s Kam – not Kim. It’s spelled with an A, K-A-M, Kaaam.”

“But sir, I’m sure I’m not Chinese/Japanese… Yes, we do look alike.”

“I’m from here, ma’am. I was BORN right here in Pennsylvania.”

“My parents are from South Korea, sir, not North.”

Mihwa’s work is usually done on a whim.
She makes her art alone in total silence.
She bakes her words with love, not violence.
The results are visually bold, delightfully told.
